Wakefield v Hull FC preview

Danny Kirmond has been passed fit to lead Wakefield for the first time as their new permanent captain in Sunday's clash with Hull.

The former Huddersfield forward has been appointed skipper after Australian Steve Southern asked to be relieved of the armband to concentrate on his own game.

Kirmond suffered a damaged cheekbone in his side's 24-6 victory over London Broncos last time but, following a scan on the injury, he has been cleared of any break and is included in coach Richard Agar's squad.

"He has obviously got a big shiner and he was a bit dusty earlier in the week but he has trained the back end of the week after the swelling went down," Agar told the club's official website.

"We are fortunate because the medics were 50/50 at the time whether he had a break but I told them at the time that you do see facial injuries blow up, but until you get the X-ray you don't really know but it gives us a clean bill of health this week."

The Wildcats also have Oliver Wilkes after he showed no ill-effects from a broken thumb, while Agar has found a place for teenage forward Lucas Walshaw in front of Frankie Mariano.

Hull head out on the travels without winger Will Sharp, who is ruled out with a knee ligament injury, and centre Tony Martin.

However coach Peter Gentle could be able to call upon the services of Kirk Yeaman, the England international having been sidelined by a foot injury and most recently illness.

Reece Lyne is called up to take Sharp's place after bagging a brace of tries in action for the under-20s last weekend. Jamie Ellis is preferred to Danny Nicklas in the 19-man squad.

The Airlie Birds were somewhat unlucky to come away with only an 18-18 draw against St Helens last time out and they have won their last two meetings with the Wildcats, including a 52-18 triumph on the road in 2011.

Wakefield: Mathers, Fox, Collis, Mellars, Cockayne, John, Wood, Raleigh, Lauitiiti, Southern, Washbrook, Aiton, Amor, Walshaw, Kirmond, Trout, Smith, Wilkes, Sykes.

Hull: Aspinwall, T. Briscoe, Crooks, Ellis, Horne, Houghton, Lynch, Lyne, Manu, Moa, O'Carroll, Pitts, Russell, Seymour, Tickle, Turner, Westerman, Whiting, Yeaman.
