Huddersfield Giants have beaten Friday's transfer deadline by signing back rower Brett Ferres from the Castleford Tigers.
The 26-year-old England international becomes new coach Paul Anderson's first signing since he replaced Nathan Brown at the helm.
The former Wakefield and Bradford man, who joined Castleford in 2009, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Giants.
Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis admitted it came down to a matter of minutes before finding out that Ferres was registered.
"Literally my phone stopped last night at a fraction short of midnight and this morning has been occupied by some extremely complex paperwork all of which was lodged with Red Hall at midday and I got the call at 1.58pm that all was in order and he was on our books," he told Huddersfield's official website.
"Brett has been a player admired by our club for a long time and indeed I know from speaking to many coaches how highly he is rated so we are simply delighted to have him here.
"Paul Anderson was extremely keen to make this move happen prior to deadline and I must thank the Castleford club for their assistance over the past few days in allowing this deal to occur prior to Brett coming out of contract with them in November."
Ferres told Castleford's official website: "I'd like to thank the club and the fans. I have really enjoyed my three and a half years with the club and I wish the Tigers well for the future.
"The fans in particular have been great, winning or losing, they have always been there and I really appreciate that support. I hope to see them continuing to support Cas in the future."
