Waterhouse to miss cup semi

Warrington are almost certain to be without Australian forward Trent Waterhouse for Sunday's Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final after he was taken to hospital with an eye injury.

The former Penrith Panthers second-rower took a head knock half an hour into the win over the Dragons, and although he stayed on until half-time, he complained of blurred vision and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"He had bleeding in the eye," said Wolves coach Tony Smith. "He's had it before, not with us, but earlier in his career.

"Our initial thoughts were that he'd be out for a couple of weeks but he saw a consultant yesterday who said it might well settle down by the weekend.

"So we'll keep that option open. We certainly won't take any risks but we've been told not to rule him out entirely."

The only player definitely ruled out of the cup tie is utility player Simon Grix, who has a torn pectoral muscle, while Warrington are monitoring Lee Briers' progress as he recovers from an Achilles injury.

"We're hopeful on Lee," said Smith. "We're trying to manage him this week in terms of his training needs. It's an ongoing issue for him.

"We'd like Lee to be there but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't make it.

"We've got some very capable young buys, as they showed at the weekend, as well as Richie Myler who is hoping for his opportunity."
