Wigan ban five of their fans

Wigan have banned five of their fans from attending matches following a disturbance at the end of the Warriors' Super League loss at Huddersfield on Saturday, February 16.

Trouble at the John Smith's stadium

One man has been banned for setting off a smoke canister inside the stadium and four others have been punished for their involvement in the violence, which came after Wigan suffered a 22-10 defeat.

The Warriors have named the fans and say the bans will last for three years, with two years suspended.

The club say they also intend to send warning letters to another four supporters involved in the trouble and that West Yorkshire police are investigating an alleged assault.

Wigan marketing director Simon Collinson said: "We will simply not tolerate the scenes that were witnessed in Huddersfield at a Wigan Warriors fixture.

"We have an amazing group of supporters who we are still proud to call our loyal 18th man.

"The actions of a few will not be allowed to ruin the great support that 99.99% of our fans provide week in week out or tarnish the great reputation they hold throughout the sport.

"It is with great sadness that we have had to ban these people as it is the first time in my nine years at the club that we've been forced to take such action."
