Francis Meli banned for four games

St Helens winger Francis Meli has been banned for four matches for his sending-off in Saturday's defeat at Hull KR.

Francis Meli has been banned for four matches

The 33-year-old was sent off late in the first half of Saints' 26-18 Challenge Cup fourth-round loss at Craven park for a high tackle on Craig Hall.

He was subsequently charged with a grade E offence and received the minimum four-game suspension and a £300 fine.

Meli was already facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after dislocating his elbow in the tackle which caused a whiplash injury to his opponent.

Meanwhile, Meli's club coach Nathan Brown is the latest head coach to be fined by the Rugby Football League for publicly criticising a match official.

The 39-year-old has been fined £500 for comments he made about referee Phil Bentham following a Super League fixture against Catalan Dragons on April 12.

The Australian was instructed to pay £250 immediately with a further £250 suspended until the end of the 2014 season.

Elsewhere, Catalan Dragons hooker Ian Henderson was cleared to face Huddersfield at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday after being found not guilty of striking, a Grade B reckless strike in the cup win over Hunslet.
