Super League: Huddersfield Giants 12 Warrington Wolves 34

Warrington made it three wins on the spin in Super League with an impressive 34-12 rout of second-placed Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium.

Warrington three wins in a row

Trent Waterhouse crossed for two of the Wolves' six tries as last season's beaten Grand Finalists slayed the Giants, meaning leaders Wigan remain three points clear at the top of the table.

Brett Hodgson also touched down for the visitors as well as kicking five goals, giving the full-back a personal haul of 14 points for Tony Smith's side.

Huddersfield had grabbed an early lead when Craig Kopczak put Jermaine McGillvary over, but the end of the first 40 minutes found themselves trailing 22-6.

The hosts didn't help themselves with a number of errors; Jason Chan's knock-on set up the opportunity for Mickey Higham to smuggle his way over from close range, Hodgson adding the extras to level the scores.

Waterhouse then grabbed a brace in the space of five-minutes, firstly accepting a gift from full-back Scott Grix near the Giants' line before finishing off a well-worked handling move soon after.

Grix's gamble to step out for an intercept let in Stefan Ratchford for an easy try, Hodgson adding his third conversion to open up a 16-point gap.

The game then boiled over on 38 minutes when Huddersfield centre Leroy Cudjoe was hauled into touch by three defenders as he went for a try, sparkling an ugly melee involving most players on the field.

Before the half-time hooter sounded the Giants found themselves down to 12 men, Danny Brough being sin-binned for dissent after the award of a controversial penalty.

Warrington stretched further clear when Ratchford's pass allowed Hodgson to go over in the right corner after 51 minutes, the scorer also adding the extras.

Teenage hooker Kruise Leeming then scored on his Huddersfield debut at the other end following an acrobatic off-load from Luke Robinson, only playing after his red card against Catalan Dragons was rescinded in mid-week.

Yet the Wolves refused to allow their opponents to launch a recovery, rounding out the scoring in the 68th minute with a converted try from centre Atkins.
