Jamie Jones-Buchanan has become the latest name to be added to the already-lengthy casualty list at Leeds after it was confirmed he will be out for up to 12 weeks with a knee problem.
The England international was hurt during the reigning Super League champions' 40-18 defeat to Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday.
Although scan results have ruled out the need for surgery, Jones-Buchanan has been told his knee must be in a brace for six weeks before facing a similar period of rehabilitation after that.
The loss of the second rower - who is set to miss the rest of the regular season but could make his comeback in the play-offs, keeping alive his hopes of playing in the 2013 World Cup - is a further blow for the wounded Rhinos.
Coach Brian McDermott was already without eight senior players for the trip to the Giants. Kylie Leuluai was one of those to be sidelined and the veteran prop will now be absent for a further three weeks after having his injured knee put in a brace.
WHowever there is better news for Leeds over Kallum Watkins, with the England centre possibly able to make his comeback against Widnes Vikings on Sunday well ahead of schedule.
The 22-year-old was expected to be out of action for two months after suffering ankle ligament damage in his side's 18-6 loss at Hull FC on May 31 but has responded well to treatment from physiotherapist Andy Barker.
"I did fear the worst when I suffered the injury but Andy Barker and the medical team have been great with me in terms of advice and how to look after myself," Watkins - who will undergo a fitness test later in the week - said.
"Initially it was just keep the weight off it and then once we knew the damage I was able to build to start putting weight on it.
"The guys are doing it tough at the moment but the young players are really standing up to be counted which is great for the future of the club."
