Warrington coach Tony Smith has criticised scrum-half Danny Brough for turning his back on England.
Brough has switched his allegiance back to Scotland after becoming disillusioned with his treatment under England coach Steve McNamara.
The Huddersfield star withdrew his services the night before McNamara named his squad for next week's International Origin match, but Smith believes he should have fought his cause longer.
The former England coach said: "Danny has changed his mind on more than one occasion on which country he is playing for.
"What most people would be disappointed in is the statement he is not prepared to play second fiddle to anybody.
"When it comes to national pride I think most people understand they have got to put their country and team first.
"There was a great example about Cooper Cronk in Australia. He has had to sit behind Jonathan Thurston and Darren Lockyer for some time for his chance, even though he has been a world-class player for a number of years.
"We didn't see him suddenly playing for Samoa or Tonga. He stuck by his country and that is what you want.
"What you also want is people who are prepared to fight for their positions."
