Super League preview: Huddersfield Giants v Castleford Tigers

Huddersfield v Castleford

Huddersfield Giants host Castleford Tigers in the first of two Sunday Super League fixtures as the hosts look to take top spot in the standings.

Victory could see the Giants elevated to the top of the Super League table with leaders Wigan Warriors not playing until Monday evening.

Giants head coach Paul Anderson has high expectations as the season enters the home straight; "If we win our six remaining games we get the League Leaders Shield and we've got a good opportunity between now and the Play-Offs to win it," he said.

Anderson welcomes Kyle Wood back into his 19-man squad after the half-back was cup-tied for the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Warrington Wolves.

The 24-year-old makes a timely return to the Giants squad following the injury sustained by Shaun Lunt last time out.

Anderson's only other switch sees Ben Blackmore included, while Jermaine McGillvary misses out on the Tigers visit to the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield enter the Round 22 clash on the back of three successive league victories as well as holding the upper hand in head-to-heads, winning four of the previous five meetings between the sides.

Similarly, Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell has also made two changes to the side which suffered a 40-24 defeat to St Helens in their last outing.

Utility man Daniel Fleming comes into the match-day squad at the expense of prop Keith Mason as the Tigers look to bounce back from that defeat.

Outside back Michael Channing could make his debut after joining the travelling party, while Ryan Boyle misses out on the Yorkshire derby.

While acknowledging the high-flying Giants are in good form, Powell insists his side could still have a chance of victory.

"Huddersfield have been going exceptionally well but they've been rattled a little bit over the last couple of weeks," the Tigers coach said.

Giants: Grix, George, Cudjoe, Wardle, Brough, Robinson, Crabtree, Kopczak, Ferres, Faiumu, Lawrence, Patrick, Ta'ai, Murphy, Cording, Ferguson, Mullally, Blackmore, Wood.

Tigers: Owen, Carney, Shenton, Dixon, Chase, Ellis, Walker, Clark, Huby, Hauraki, Millington, Milner, Massey, Holmes, Thompson, Tansey, Fleming, Davies, Channing.
