Super League Dream Team 2013 announced

Dream team 2013

Regular-season table-toppers Huddersfield are represented by five players in this year's Super League Dream Team.

Giants captain Danny Brough, one of the favourites for the coveted Man of Steel award, is joined by centre Leroy Cudjoe, hooker Shaun Lunt, second rower Brett Ferres and prop Eorl Crabtree in the line-up.

They are among nine debutants selected by a panel of broadcasters and journalists which was unveiled at Huddersfield's John Smith's Stadium, but there are no overseas players in the team since the launch of Super League.

Tetley's Challenge Cup winners Wigan have four players in full-back Sam Tomkins, winger Josh Charnley, loose forward Sean O'Loughlin, who all retain their places from 2012, and scrum-half Matty Smith.

Only five top-flight clubs are represented in the team, with Warrington failing to supply a single player for the first time since 2006.

Hull's 20-year-old centre Ben Crooks is the youngest player selected, pipping winger and team-mate Tom Lineham by a year, while at the other end of the age scale, there is a recall for 35-year-old Leeds prop Jamie Peacock for the first time since 2009.

The Rhinos veteran now holds the Dream Team record with eight appearances, one more than former St Helens hooker Keiron Cunningham.

The only player not involved in the forthcoming Super League play-offs is second rower Danny Kirmond, who has been the stand-out performer for the Wakefield Wildcats.

It is the first time in its 18-year history that the Dream Team comprises 13

British players, and the absence of any overseas stars comes 12 years after the 2001 Dream Team contained only six home-grown players, including Peacock.
