Michael McIlorum banned for three matches for high tackle

Wigan hooker Michael McIlorum has been banned for three matches after being found guilty of a high tackle that broke Castleford winger Kirk Dixon's jaw.

McIlorum, who was charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel for a reckless tackle during his side's 36-31 defeat by the Tigers on Sunday, did have the option of submitting an early-guilty plea.

Instead, he chose to fight his case, but a disciplinary panel at the game's headquarters in Leeds found him guilty.

He was given a £300 fine, in addition to the suspension, which will start with the visit of Hull KR to the DW Stadium on Friday.

McIlorum, who missed just four of Wigan's 35 matches in their double-winning season of 2013, was accompanied to the hearing by head coach Shaun Wane.

Castleford winger Justin Carney was also fined £300 and issued with a warning about his future conduct after admitting a grade A charge of punching during the same game.

Carney, who was sin-binned for the offence, served three separate suspensions in his first season in Super League in 2013 but is free to play in Sunday's game against Hull.
