Paul Medley has left Bradford and Odsal for the Rugby Football League

Former Great Britain forward Paul Medley has left Bradford's backroom staff to join the Rugby Football League as national player development manager.

Medley, 47, takes over from Dave Rotheram, the former London Broncos player who is promoted to head of talent and player development, a position made vacant by Barrie-Jon Mather's move to the New South Wales Rugby League.

Medley's decision to end a 25-year association as player and coach with the Bulls was made before the club's takeover by Marc Green which was announced on Wednesday.

"I have had to make the hardest decision of my life but this is a massive opportunity for me, one which I simply could not turn down," Medley said.

"I am very much looking forward to having an influence of the future of our sport."

The RFL's director of performance and coaching Jon Roberts said: "Following BJ's departure to the New South Wales Rugby League, we have taken the opportunity to rebuild the team that will drive us forward over the next four years.

"Our priority is the creation of quality talent development environments, including academies and centres of excellence and player development centres."

The RFL has also appointed a new national player development manager, Tony Fretwell, who is a director of sport in Stretford, Manchester.
