Sean Long rejoins Salford backroom staff

Sean Long has rejoined Salford's backroom staff, a month after losing his job as assistant coach at Super League rivals London Broncos.

The former St Helens scrum-half retired from playing in 2011 and joined the coaching team at Salford before moving on to Wigan last April.

Long lasted only three months at the DW Stadium though and finished the season in charge of Championship club Featherstone before making the move to the capital over the winter.

He left last month after the club claimed he "failed to reach the professional levels expected".

Long has since revealed he attempted to commit suicide in January after suffering from depression but his health has improved after he sought help from the Sporting Chance clinic and he has now returned to Salford on a consultancy basis.

"As soon as I heard Sean became available following his release from London Broncos, I wanted to give him this opportunity to work with the exciting team we have assembled here to make sure it quickly fulfils its huge potential," said head coach Brian Noble.

"Sean knows what it takes to be a success at the highest level.

"When you consider the mixture of high quality and experience we have pulled together at the club, I'm sure he will bring a further dimension to our team dynamics."
