Wakefield coach Richard Agar signs a new deal

Richard Agar: Signed a new contract

Wakefield coach Richard Agar has signed a new contract with the Wildcats, who have revealed that former Hull chairperson Kath Hetherington is to assist the crisis-torn Super League club.

A public meeting organised by the Wakefield Trinity Supporters Trust and attended by around 500 fans also heard that general manager Davide Longo has left the club.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter, who re-organised the administration of the Wildcats in an effort to get them out of their financial "hole", told fans that Hetherington, 61, will take up the role of consultant chief executive.

She is the wife of Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington, with whom she help found Sheffield Eagles in 1984. She was the first woman to be elected to the Rugby Football League Council and in 1995 became its first female president.

In 1999 she helped launch Gateshead Thunder and following the merger with Hull, she was on the board of the Airlie Birds from 2000-11 when her departure paved the way for the arrival of new owner Adam Pearson.

Carter has recently sold two players, Tim Smith and Kyle Amor, to help the club make ends meet, but revealed that winger Ben Cockayne is currently discussing personal terms after agreeing a transfer fee with Hull KR.

Carter also but re-iterated his intention to keep hold of captain Danny Kirmond "unless a club made a ridiculous offer".

Cater said Longo chose to leave the club after more than 10 years to further his professional career.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Wildcats, have met some outstanding people and thank the Wildcats for giving me an opportunity outside of playing rugby league," Longo said.
