Former Hull prop Sam Moa has been handed a surprise call-up to New Zealand's World Cup squad, but there was no place for Sonny Bill Williams.
Moa left Hull at the end of last season to return to the NRL and earned a place in the 24-man group after an impressive campaign for newly crowned premiers Sydney Roosters.
The 27-year-old, who has previous played for Tonga, is one of only two uncapped players, with Roosters winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck completing the duo, while Wigan's Thomas Leuluai also got the nod.
Williams, who won the rugby union World Cup with the All Blacks in 2011, was initially ruled out due to other commitments - however he went back on that decision to then make himself available.
Newcastle Knights loose forward Jeremy Smith withdrew for personal reasons and Roosters centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall was ruled out with a jaw injury.
Tuivasa-Sheck is the youngest member of the squad at the age of 20, but coach Stephen Kearney has opted for experience.
The Kiwis will be captained by Simon Mannering, one of seven survivors from the 2008 World Cup-winning squad.
Leuluai, Manu Vatuvei, Issac Luke, Jason Nightingale, Krisnan Inu and former Leeds second rower Greg Eastwood were also included.
