World Cup: United States v Cook Islands preview

The United States will make their Rugby League World Cup debut on Wednesday when they take on the Cook Islands at Bristol's Memorial Stadium.

The winners of the contest will go straight to the top of Group D with Wales having lost their opener to Italy on Saturday at the Millennium Stadium.

Former Hull KR second-rower Clint Newton, who was born in Florida while his golfing father Jack was taking part in the US Open, and Wigan's new signing Eddy Pettybourne will make their Tomahawks debuts.

United States coach Terry Matterson, the former Castleford boss, is also able to give a first cap to Wests Tigers hooker Joel Luani.

Wigan Warriors centre Anthony Gelling and Catalan Dragons forward Zeb Taia will line up for the Cook Islands.
