Wakefield sign Paul McShane

Paul McShane: Hopes for regular starts

Wakefield have signed Leeds hooker Paul McShane on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old will plug the gap created by the departure to Leeds of Papua New Guinea hooker Paul Aiton after the clubs agreed an undisclosed transfer fee.

McShane made 63 appearances in an eight seasons at Headingley and briefly played under Wildcats head coach Richard Agar during a loan spell at Hull in 2010.

"I want to play as much as I can and get back to enjoying my rugby again," said McShane, who had two years left on his Leeds contract. "I've been in and out for the last two or three years when I'd have liked to have been more regular.

"It's a fresh start. I've been at Leeds a long time - since I was 16 - so to have the change is for the best."

Agar said: "Paul's a very talented player and very creative out of dummy half. He's at that stage of his career now where he needs to be playing regularly and we think he can become a dominant and prominent player for us."

McShane is Wakefield's fourth new signing for 2014 squad following the recruitment of his former Leeds team-mate Richard Moore, Daniel Smith (South Sydney) and Scott Anderson (Brisbane).
