Chris Tuson freak injury in training

Chris Tuson: Hull debut put on hold

New Hull FC signing Chris Tuson will have to wait a few more weeks to make his debut after suffering an freak back injury in training.

The former Wigan second-rower suffered the freak injury affecting a disc in his back during a routine session in training and, after consultation with specialists, has since had an operation.

Airlie Birds team-mate Aaron Heremaia suffered a similar problem last season, but a quick prognosis of Tuson has enabled Hull's medical staff to get him quickly on the road to recovery.

Hull coach Lee Radford said: "It's unfortunate for Chris because he was training the house down, it's just a freak knock, but it won't be long before we can get him in the side.

"He is already pushing to take part and is still proving to be a big character around the training ground which shows exactly why we brought him here."

Hull begin their pre-season campaign against Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium on January 12 with the first Super League match of the season at Catalan Dragons on February 14.

"We've got some real depth in there at the minute and it's fair to say a few of the players have really put their hand up," Radford added.

"I've been impressed by the young lads like Jordan Thompson, Liam Kent and Dean Hadley, and Gareth Ellis has been outstanding in training so far.

"Add quality players like Joe Westerman, Richard Whiting and Chris and we've got some strong competition in the back row going into the new season."
