Danny McGuire crosses for Leeds Rhinos in their Super 8s clash against Wigan Warriors
The Vikings go into Sunday’s home clash versus Sheffield Eagles looking to maintain their 100% record in the Super 8’s Qualifiers.
The game at the Select Security Stadium is the first of four home games Denis Betts’ men will play, the other coming against fellow Super League teams Hull KR and Salford Red Devils, as well as Championship toppers Leigh Centurions.
Last week saw a nail-biting encounter at The Shay, the first score of the match coming in the forty-eighth minute through new signing Charly Runciman, who bagged a debut brace, and the Vikings will be keen to avoid the same kind of anxious finish as they return back to their home turf.
Mark Aston’s Eagles come to Cheshire off the back of a heavy defeat in their Super 8’s debut against Championship side Bradford Bulls, but went three games unbeaten in the run in to the qualifying phase with wins over the Bulls, Featherstone Rovers and London Broncos.
Sheffield’s side is littered with Super League experience, with the likes of Keal Carlile, Jamie Langley and Kyle Briggs turning out for the South Yorkshire team. Add to this some promising young talent such as Corey Aston, son of Mark, to the mix and they certainly have the credentials to make a serious attempt at an upset at some stage of this competition.
