Rugby League - Catalan v Leeds preview

Catalan v Leeds preview

Elliott Whitehead hopes to bid a fond farewell to Perpignan by helping Catalans Dragons topple Super League leaders Leeds on Saturday.

The England international is one of five Dragons players who will be making their last appearances at Stade Gilbert Brutus as they prepare to either resume or begin a career in the NRL.

Ian Henderson, Scott Dureau, Zeb Taia and Benjamin Garcia are also leaving the club at the end of the season - the Catalans finish with back-to-back away games against Warrington and Wigan.

Whitehead, who has signed a two-year contract with Canberra Raiders, admits he will have mixed emotions on Saturday.

"It will be a sad day," he said. "I've enjoyed living out here in France, experiencing another lifestyle, and I think it's helped my career.

"I've come on as a player in leaps and bounds from when I was at Bradford.

"I want to become an even better player and hopefully my move to Canberra will help me do that."

Leeds are one of only two away teams to have won in Perpignan this season and Whitehead, the Dragons' only ever-present this year, is expecting a tough test.

"It's always a good game against Leeds," said the 26-year-old. "They've got some quality players, including probably the best back five in Super League.

"But we've been good at home so hopefully we can give the fans a win and end on a high for us boys who are leaving.

"We are going to enjoy these last three games together but we want to enjoy them with a win."

The Dragons have lost back rower Louis Anderson to suspension but long-serving loose forward Greg Mounis is able to take his place after recovering from injury.

Leeds are boosted by the return of full-back Zak Hardaker, while winger Ryan Hall is set to make his 250th appearance for the club as the Rhinos seek to extend their four-game winning run in Perpignan.

Catalans Dragons: Jason Baitieri, Thomas Bosc, Julian Bousquet, Todd Carney, Scott Dureau, Olivier Elima, Morgan Escaré, Ben Garcia, Tony Gigot, Ian Henderson, Krisnan Inu, Jeff Lima, Antoni Maria, Greg Mounis, Eloi Pelissier, Stan Robin, Jordan Sigismeau, Zeb Taia, Elliott Whitehead.

Leeds Rhinos: Carl Ablett, Mitch Achurch, Tom Briscoe, Adam Cuthbertson, Brett Delaney, Mitch Garbutt, Ryan Hall, Ash Handley, Zak Hardaker, Jimmy Keinhorst, Kylie Leuluai, Jordan Lilley, Danny McGuire, Joel Moon, Jamie Peacock, Brad Singleton, Kevin Sinfield, Josh Walters, Stevie Ward.
