Rugby League - Scotland 22 Ireland 24 report

Scott Grix secured victory for Ireland over Scotland at Galashiels

Scotland's second-half fightback counted for nothing as Scott Grix's converted try eight minutes from time lifted Ireland to a 24-22 victory in the Rugby League European Championship.

The Wolfhounds appeared set for an easier night after taking an 18-4 lead at half-time at Galashiels, thanks to Luke Ambler's two tries and one from Brad Hargreaves, with Liam Finn adding two conversions and a penalty.

Danny Addy's try was all the Scots had to show for their efforts in the first 40 minutes, although the Bradford loose forward crossed again on the resumption to narrow the deficit.

Shane Toal's converted try took Scotland to within two points of Ireland before Dale Ferguson's score, converted by the talismanic Danny Brough, gave the hosts the lead for the first time.

However, the Bravehearts' hopes were crushed when Brough's Huddersfield team-mate Grix touched down to level the scores before Finn slotted home the conversion.

Ireland held on in the closing stages to hand Scotland, World Cup quarter-finalists in 2013, their second defeat of the championship and they will complete their campaign against France in Avignon on November 7.
