Bradford share the spoils with Leigh after dramatic fightback, whilst Batley, Dewsbury, London and Sheffield all continue their strong starts to the season
Sheffield Eagles drew level with Kingstone Press Championship leaders Bradford with a 48-26 win over Swinton on Friday night.
The visitors took a surprise lead thanks to Chris Atkins' third-minute try which he converted himself but the Eagles recovered to lead 22-6 at half-time thanks to tries from Ben Blackmore, George Tyson, Scott Wheeldon and Quentin Laulu-Togagae.
Half-back Cory Aston touched down twice in six minutes as Sheffield strengthened their grip on the game while Blackmore grabbed his second, skipper Mitch Stringer got one and Menzie Yere scored for the fifth successive match, with Michael Knowles taking his goal tally to six from nine attempts.
Greg Scott scored two tries and others came from Shaun Robinson and Macauley Hallett during a second-half rally from Swinton, who were left still looking for their first win since gaining promotion from League 1.
Bradford Bulls 32-32 Leigh Centurions
Danny Addy landed a touchline conversion with the last kick of the game to earn Kingstone Press Championship leaders Bradford a thrilling 32-32 draw with Leigh in the clash of the big two at Odsal.
The Bulls had trailed 32-6 early in the second half but staged a tremendous fightback with five tries in the last 15 minutes to grab a share of the spoils in front of a 6,463 crowd. Remarkably the teams drew 36-36 in the corresponding game last July.
Former Leeds and Wakefield full-back Lee Smith scored 16 points for the Centurions with a try and six goals while Ryan Brierley touched down twice and Jonny Pownall and Reni Maitua got the other tries for the visitors, who were without Rangi Chase.
James Clare got two tries for Bradford, with others coming from Kris Welham, Adrian Purtell, Omari Caro and Addy, who also kicked four goals.
Dewsbury Rams 20-4 Whitehaven RLFC
Dewsbury bounced back from their surprise defeat at Oldham with a 20-4 win over bottom club Whitehaven. Josh Guzdek, Shane Grady and Scott Hale scored tries and Paul Sykes kicked four goals for the Rams, who led 12-0 at half-time. Scott McAvoy scored Whitehaven's only points with a try on 56 minutes.
Featherstone Rovers 20-6 Oldham RLFC
Featherstone maintained their unbeaten home record with a 20-6 victory over newly-promoted Oldham. Rovers took an early lead through Misi Taulapapa and doubled it with an Anthony Thackeray try, goaled by Kyle Briggs which made it 10-0.
Oldham pulled six points back before half-time with a try from full-back Richard Lepori, goaled by Lewis Palfrey, but Briggs extended Rovers' lead when he converted his own try on 56 minutes and Danny Craven added a fourth just before the end.
Halifax RLFC 12-17 Batley Bulldogs
Batley are just a point behind Kingstone Press Championship leaders Bradford after maintaining their impressive start to the season with a 17-12 win over Halifax at the Shay.
It was two tries apiece but Dom Brambani kicked three goals and a drop to add to his 49th-minute try, and Pat Walker also kicked a penalty as the Bulldogs followed up their surprise victories over full-time outfits Leigh and Sheffield Eagles.
Alex Bretherton scored Batley's first-half try while Dane Manning and Gareth Moore scored tries for Halifax, which were both converted by Steve Tyrer.
Workington Town 13-16 London Broncos
London Broncos came from behind to beat Workington 16-13 at Derwent Park to deny their hosts a first win of the season.
Former Bradford and Wakefield half-back Jarrod Sammut, who had a spell on dual registration at the Broncos last year, scored two tries, both converted by Carl Forber, to put the Cumbrians into a 12-6 lead and also added a late drop goal.
London had opened the scoring with James Cunningham's ninth-minute try and Rhys Williams and Matt Garside touched down in the second half, with Scott Leatherbarrow kicking two goals, to secure a third win from four games.
