James Roby says St Helens must be wary of a Wakefield side "with a point to prove" when they visit Langtree Park on Friday.
For the second time in three weeks Saints will face opponents with a new man at the helm after Brian Smith resigned as Wildcats boss on Tuesday.
Hooker Roby is warning his team-mates to be wary of the danger that presents.
A fortnight ago, Saints were pushed all the way by a Hull KR side keen to impress caretaker coach Willie Poching and now they come up against a Wakefield team prepared by the loyal Stuart Dickens.
"They will be wound up for the game and eager to prove a point," said Roby.
"They will want to play for pride in the club. We saw that when we played Hull KR and throughout my career I have come across it a number of times.
"When a coach leaves a club, teams always seem to play well off the back of it. We will need to be aware of that."
St Helens utility player Morgan Knowles is set to take the place of Theo Fages, who is relegated to the reserves along with Travis Burns, who has served a one-match ban.
Head coach Keiron Cunningham has also called Jack Ashworth into his 19-man squad.
Wakefield caretaker coach Dickens has added former Saints prop Anthony Walker and Jason Walton to the team that lost to Catalans Dragons as they seek their first away win at St Helens since 2009.
