LCC: Halifax v Widnes preview

Halifax v Widnes preview

Halifax Prop forwards Luke Ambler and Mitch Cahalane are ruled out through injury.

Halifax coach Richard Marshall has announced his 19 man squad to face Widnes Vikings in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

Prop forwards Luke Ambler and Mitch Cahalane are ruled out through injury, with Elliot Morris and Adam Robinson pushing for returns to the side. Centre Ben Heaton could also feature after being named in the initial 19 man squad.

Denis Betts Salford Head Coach says “It’s been well-documented that after such a good start we’ve been struggling to find some form and some wins,” “There are little things that are just not helping us at the moment like confidence in ourselves to go out and finish games off.

"It’s pretty tough but if we can get our best 17 on the park we’ve got a chance. It’s just that we’ve been struggling to do that over the last couple of months. “Halifax are a very good side. They’ve got aspirations of moving into Super League and climbing as a club. We’ve run into them a couple of times over the last few years and had nothing but tough games against them. We know it’s going to be physical, they’re well-drilled and they’ll have a plan and they’re going to make it a very tough game.”

Halifax were made to work hard for their 36-32 win over Workington Town last week and will be looking to continue their form again this weekend at home.

Halifax Coach Richard Marshall says “Workington were desperate and fighting all the way, they never gave up. It was only at the death that we got the game really. It was the same old story, our concentration level dropped in the second half and that’s something we’ve spoken about this week.

“There are some things we’re not too happy with at the moment that we need to improve and we’ve got the opportunity to do that and test ourselves against a Super League team this week. It’s not a daunting task, we’re not afraid of playing stronger opposition, it’s something we’ll relish and it will be good for the team to see how good we can play and need to play.

“Widnes are obviously having a tough time. They started the season very, very well. They‘ve slipped a little bit now but we’re hoping we can catch them at the right time. We want to put in a really good performance this week.”

Halifax squad: Gavin Bennion,Jacob Fairbank, Miles Greenwood, Ben Heaton, Ben Johnston, Ben Kaye, Dane Manning, Brandon Moore, Gareth Moore, Richard Moore, Elliot Morris, Scott Murrell, Adam Robinson, Connor Robinson, James Saltonstall, Will Sharp, Sam Smeaton, Adam Tangata, Steve Tyrer
