Briers hoping to play as much as possible

Warrington Wolves veteran Lee Briers insists he 'hates' being rested after being left out of last weekend's 42-12 win at Wakefield.

Coach Tony Smith manages the 33-year-old sensibly, meaning he does not start every game for last season's League Leaders' Shield winners.

Briers is set to return to action against Widnes Vikings in this weekend's Magic Weekend in Manchester and he is chomping at the bit to play.

Warrington are second in the table ahead of the games at the Etihad Stadium and Briers rejects the notion that Smith's team have an easy game against Super League's bottom club.

"I hate being rested, but I am not daft enough or naïve enough to think that it will never happen," he told the Warrington Guardian.

"My age dictates that it needs to happen sometimes and as a team we have three young half backs who can come in and take over the job.

"But being rested does mean that I am desperate to get out there and play well against our 'derby' rivals."

Briers added: "I'd rebuke the idea that the 'derby' format plays into our hands.
