Hull FC will look to complete the signing of Castleford Tigers half-back Rangi Chase this week.
Negotiations between the two clubs are now thought to be at an advanced stage, with a deal agreed in principle for Chase to head to the KC Stadium.
And despite talk of Castleford demanding big money for their star man, the Mail understands the Black and Whites will be able to secure his services for a minimal fee.
Chase has made no secret of his desire to leave the struggling Tigers and join a bigger club, despite only signing a new four-year deal last year.
His campaign this season has been beset by disciplinary problems, both on and off the field, leading to him recently being suspended by Castleford officials.
Frustrated by those problems, and with a clearly unhappy player on their hands, the Tigers have decided to cut their losses.
And sources have told the Mail that has seen them drastically drop their asking price from the original £350,000.
Hull will look to seal the deal as soon as possible, as the cut in price could well bring more clubs to the table.
However, the Mail understands Chase is keen to head to Hull, allowing him to join up with former Tigers team-mates Joe Westerman and Joe Arundel next season.
Hull and Castleford are believed to have discussed not only a transfer starting from next season, but also one which could take immediate effect, bringing Chase into contention for a debut in next Monday's derby at Hull KR.
FC have space on their salary cap following a number of player departures this season, with the exit of Wade McKinnon creating space on their overseas quota. However, Chase may need to transfer his visa to allow him to play for Hull this season.
