St Helens have suffered a blow with the news that second rower Sia Soliola will be out for up to 10 weeks with a foot injury.
Soliola has missed just one of the Saints' 19 Super League and cup matches so far this campaign but looks set to miss the majority of the season.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury whilst playing for the Exiles in last Friday's 30-10 defeat at the hands of England.
Nathan Brown expressed his regret at losing Soliola but the coach believes his absence will provide an excellent opportunity for squad players to step up to the mark.
"It is disappointing to lose Sia, who has had to have an operation," he said.
"The upside is that it gives another player the chance to step up and stake a claim for a place.
"Our squad as a whole has gained vital experience throughout the course of the year and I have no doubt we will adapt and continue to develop."
Brown has called 20-year-old forward Joe Greenwood into the squad for Friday's trip to Salford City Red while experienced prop Anthony Laffranchi is also back after an injury lay-off.
