Warrington scored two late tries to secure a 22-12 victory over Wigan and ensure that the Warriors' winning run ended at 13 matches.
Micky Higham and Chris Hill both touched down within the final 10 minutes as the hosts came out on top in a breathless contest at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Wigan had not lost in any competition since March 15 but second-half tries from Sam Tomkins and Anthony Gelling were not enough to keep the Wolves at bay.
The result moves Warrington to within a point of second-placed Huddersfield and to within four of the league-leading Warriors with eight rounds of the regular season remaining.
Wigan went into the game without eight senior players because of injury but there was little to choose between the sides in a first half dominated by crunching defence.
However, it was Warrington who took their chances to go in 10-0 up, their first score coming when Lee Briers' short pass got England second rower Ben Westwood crashing over on seven minutes
With the half-hour approaching, Briers perfectly-executed grubber kick to the corner eluded Wigan's Pat Richards but held up nicely for winger Joel Monaghan to claim his 19th try of the campaign.
Wigan had their fair share of possession and put the home side's defence under intense pressure, but the Wolves held firm, scrambling superbly to prevent both Tomkins and Richards grounding the ball after they got over the line.
It took some trademark wizardry from Tomkins to eventually unlock the Warrington defence 90 seconds into the second half, the England star taking in a pass from took Matty Smith's before jinking his way over.
Richards' conversion cut the deficit to four points and he put Wigan in front on 50 minutes when converting a score from centre Gelling, who took Tomkins' pass to complete a quick-fire double.
The contest continued at a breakneck pace but no further points were scored until Higham pounced on Chris Riley's kick after the ball eluded both Josh Charnley and Sam Tomkins, before Hill powered his way over from close range.
