Hull FC players celebrate key try in their fourth straight win.
A late drop goal from Marc Sneyd handed Hull a remarkable 17-16 victory over St Helens at Langtree Park on Friday night.
Saints led 16-10 at half-time thanks to tries from Joe Greenwood, Matty Dawson and Jordan Turner, while Danny Houghton and Curtis Naughton crossed over in the first period for the visitors.
Hull levelled the scores on the hour mark through centre Kirk Yeaman, leaving Sneyd to kick the winning point with just five minutes remaining.
Saints, who were without the injured Tommy Makinson, started the match well and went ahead when Theo Fages set up Greenwood for the game's first try, which Luke Walsh converted.
However, Hull hit back midway through the first half when a Sneyd grubber kick rebounded perfectly off the post for Houghton to touch down.
Dawson restored the hosts' four-point advantage with a well-worked try in the corner after some good work from Fages, leaving Jack Owens, who had taken over the kicking duties from Walsh, to successfully add the extras.
Turner, set up by Jon Wilkin, then added a third Saints score before Hull grabbed their second try of the match when Naughton beat Shannon McDonnell to touch down in the corner.
After a scoreless first 15 minutes of the second half, Naughton once again broke free to set up Yeaman. Sneyd successfully kicked the conversion to level the scores at 16-16 with 20 minutes remaining in the match.
Both sides pushed for a game-winning drop goal and, after seeing Saints' Fages miss with an attempt of his own, Sneyd successfully kicked over from close to the halfway line to secure Hull's third successive victory at Langtree Park.
Saints now travel to league leaders Warrington on April 8, while Hull host Huddersfield on the same day.
